Food, Supermarket and Voucher Savings

EcoFrenzy offers a list of some of the many organisations helping with savings on food and supplying money saving vouchers…

Approved Food
Every year in the UK over 7 million tonnes of food and drink is thrown away, a lot of which has past its ‘best before’ date, but would still be perfectly good to eat. Approved Food specialises in surplus and short-dated stock, food that is either near or just passed its ‘best before’ date – allowing them to pass on huge savings to their customers.

Thousands of tonnes of good food from the food industry that would otherwise go to waste is redistributed by FareShare around the country. There are 20 FareShare Regional Centres across the UK from Aberdeen to Brighton where the food is used by partner charities. There are 6,723 of them including breakfast clubs, homeless hostels and women’s refuges to help feed those who need it. The food provided by FareShare contributes towards 28.6 million meals per year.

Love Food Hate Waste
Love Food Hate Waste is here to help us all make the most of the food we love.
By rethinking how we shop, planning our meals better and using up our leftovers, together we can make a big difference. It’s not often that ‘doing your bit’ is as simple as keeping food out of the bin – let’s all get on board!

Olio is a free app that connects neighbours with each other and with local businesses so surplus food can be shared, not thrown away. This could be food nearing its sell-by date in local stores, spare home-grown vegetables, bread from your baker, or the groceries in your fridge when you go away. Olio can also be used for non-food household items too.
